Parow gardens
Looking after a garden in Parow
Parow takes its name from Captain Johann Parow, who was stranded in Table Bay in a storm in 1865, and it became a municipality in 1939. Today it's a big area: almost 120,000 people at the 2011 census, across neighbourhoods such as Parow Valley, Panorama, Plattekloof, Welgelegen, Florida and Ravensmead.
Above it all sits the Tygerberg hill, with the Tygerberg Nature Reserve on top. The reserve holds one of the few surviving pockets of Swartland Shale Renosterveld, the bush that once grew on the clay soils of these hills.
That clay sets gardens on the hill side of Parow apart from the sandy coast around our base. Clay holds on to water much longer than sand, so lawns and beds there need different care from a Table View garden.
Top Trimmers' garden services cover the regular work: mowing, edging, cleaning out flower beds, light pruning and taking the garden waste away when we're done. We've done jobs in Parow before, and we work across Panorama and Plattekloof too.

Local rules
City rules that apply to your garden
- Watering: under the City's Water By-law, water only before 9am or after 6pm, and don't hose down paving with drinking water. See the City's Think Water page.
- Verge trees: a tree on the pavement outside your Parow home is on City land. The City of Cape Town says such trees stay City property and need its written approval before anyone prunes or removes them. See what permission you need to cut a tree.
- Taking garden waste yourself: check which site and how many loads are allowed on the City's drop-off facilities page. Or let us take it on our trailer, at R450 a load.

Clay holds on to water much longer than coastal sand, so a lawn or bed on the hill side of Parow needs different care from one near the sea.
